Learning to Cast

Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.”

Psalm 55:22

Growing up, my brothers and I spent many summers at my grandparents’ trailer at the Old Mille Inn on Green Lake near Spicer, MN. If my grandpa didn’t already have us out in the boat fishing, one of the things we liked to do was practice casting with our fishing poles on a hill behind their trailer.

When my daughters got to be about the same age as my brothers and I were then, they got to practice casting in our backyard with their pink princess fishing poles.

Much of our time at ATLAS is spent helping teach people a different kind of casting. Psalm 55:22 says “Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you.” Likewise, 1 Peter 5:7 calls us to “cast all our anxieties on him because he cares for you.

Casting our problems on the Lord is something all Christians need to learn how to do. The burdens of this world are far too heavy for us to carry on our own. That’s why God is so gracious to help his people and why our staff and mentors at ATLAS try to teach and model to those we serve what it means to cast our burdens on the Lord.

Do you need help casting? If you do, contact us at ATLAS and we will help you learn.
