Anchor of the Soul

We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain.

Hebrews 6:19

This morning I had a great opportunity to talk about hope with a group of teenage boys at Prairie Lakes Youth Programs. With Hebrews 6:19 in mind, I talked about how hope is an anchor for our souls. I explained that the bigger and more valuable a ship, the bigger more secure anchor you need for it. Our individual souls far surpass the largest ocean liners and the most luxurious yachts we can imagine. So our souls need the most sturdy and secure anchor of all.

The problem, however, is that we place our trust in anchors that are far too weak to get our souls through the storms of this life. We turn to things like sex, drugs, money, power, endless entertainment, and countless other things to help us endure storms in our lives. But those things are far too weak to keep our souls secure. I shared with these guys that the only anchor strong enough for our souls is Jesus Christ. We need to know him and what he has done for us and promised us. He is the only anchor strong enough to keep us secure.

Please pray for these boys that they would place their hope firmly and entirely in Christ. Pray also for the amazing staff at Prairie Lakes as they guide and help these kids through hard and dark times in their lives.
